Cooper Wellness Medical Director Riva Rahl, a former White Rock Marathon women's champion, will discuss the health and fitness benefits of training for a marathon.
The free lecture will be held 6-7 p.m. Tuesday, April 10 at the Cooper Clinic Auditorium, 12200 Preston Road, in Dallas. To attend, RSVP to info@runtherock.com. Space is limited.
PowerBar products, Cooper Complete Nutritional Supplements and a 2012 entry to the Dec. 9 MetroPCS Dallas White Rock Marathon will be given away.
"She's the perfect poster child for the Health & Wellness Committee," said longtime White Rock Marathon board member Irving Adelstein. "She's a White Rock Marathon winner. She's a doctor. She's a woman. She's a mother. She's a good role model."
Rahl said the leading causes of death in the United States are: heart disease, all cancers followed by stroke. The major risk factors for all these are lifestyle. If you can control your weight through running, you can vastly reduce your risk, she said.
"Getting regular exercise is 80 percent of it," she said. "Exercise will reduce your blood pressure and improve your cholesterol profile. We are going to promote the heath and fitness benefits of running."
