Everybody has a favorite band, and has probably gone up and down with their appreciation for that band at different points in their life. The gathering of feelings put towards one band or musician, whether that musician or band can be categorized as horror rap or not, is often a very heavy feeling.
There?s a reason people become passionate about their favorite artists ? music is more moving than it?s often given credit for. Which brings me to my point ? Detroit horror rap duo Insane Clown Posse has one of the most devoted, fervent fan followings in all of music.
Yes, the same can be said for many other horror rap groups and even bands that have nothing to do with horror rap, but nearly no other artist can say they have their own music festival featuring artists they hand pick, and they themselves headline.
This is exactly what Insane Clown Posse does each and every year with The Gathering of the Juggalos horror rap music festival. The Gathering is an assortment of horror rap fans from all over the world (yes, world), but the one thing they all have in common is their love of the Gathering headliners Insane Clown Posse. Can you imagine flying half way around the world to see your favorite artist perform at his or her own festival? Almost every Juggalo would jump at the chance if they were given the opportunity to travel to the Gathering.
If you ever watch any documentaries that focus on The Gathering, you?ll see what I mean. But the Gathering aside, there are many other aspects of ICP?s career that leads me to believe their fans are more devoted than any other fan group on the planet (horror rap or not), the foremost example being an excess of Juggalo poems.
Many fans can claim to have been inspired by their favorite bands, either to act differently or even write songs.
But very few have been so moved by one musician or band in particular that they?ve written a song or poem specifically about them. Juggalo poems do just that.A quick Google search of Juggalo poems will reveal countless anthems written about either being a Juggalo, or the body of Juggalos as a whole supporting each other. Juggalo poems do not often fall into the same horror rap vein as ICP?s songs or those heard at the Gathering do, but they are anthems of Juggalohood nonetheless.
These Juggalo poems are most often written by Juggalos who didn?t feel they belonged in normal, mainstream society before becoming a Juggalo, and now feel like they belong more than they ever have in their lives, whether that?s thanks to the music or the Gathering. Regardless, they feel the need to express gratitude via one of these Juggalo poems.
Juggalo poems aren?t usually just written and finalized in a word doc or pad and paper. There are some pretty cool examples of Juggalo poems being printed on posters, or other colorful backgrounds using Photoshop. The horror rap famous hatchetman even makes an appearance on some of the backgrounds!
