Hi,
There are many good books available on various .NET languages and technologies, some by the most reputed authors. But if you want to be a good programmer who aim to achieve success in developing .NET applications (rather than in writing another book:-), then I would suggest you to start creating new .NET apps and understand and decipher existing programs. Books are most helpful only when they are used to understand just the basics and as a reference guide. You can become perfect only when you practice.
If you don't have a ready requirement, then start as an open-source project that you can share with everyone else. Here are some suggestions:
[1] Write an FTP Client in either VB.NET or C# (To get an idea of Network Programming in .NET).
[2] Write a spider that crawls Google and extracts various data such as top urls, page-ranks, etc. and stores to a MySQL/MS-SQL database.
[3] Create your portfolio website in ASP.NET.
If you are stuck anywhere, then apart from your reference books there are many other places where help is ready at hand:-) :
[1] MSDN Library and Forums.
[2] ASP.NET Forums (This one).
[3] Stack Overflow (stackoverflow.com).
[4] Code Project (codeproject.com).
Best Luck in your programming conquest...
