Kids' Choice Awards 2012: 5 Things We're Dying To See

Katy Perry and One Direction's performances, Will Smith's hosting skills and more have us pumped for Saturday night.

This year's Kids' Choice Awards are going to be as action-packed as ever, with Will Smith as host, two killer performers lined up and a slew of celebrities expected to be in attendance.

Here are the five things we're looking forward to during the live show at 8 p.m. Saturday:

Katy Perry's Performance
Perry is not only one of this year's top nominees, but the "Teenage Dream" singer will also take the stage at USC's Galen Center to present and perform. So what song will she sing? What will she wear? Will her hair still be blue? One of Perry's biggest hits, "Firework," is up for Favorite Song. She is also nominated for Favorite Female Singer and Favorite Voice in an Animated Movie for her role in "The Smurfs."

A Host With Big Willie Style
Nickelodeon hit the jackpot of high-profile celeb hosts in landing Will Smith for their master of ceremonies this year. Although he's one of the biggest stars around, it's been awhile since we've seen the former Fresh Prince. We've seen a lot of his son Jaden and daughter Willow, who are becoming big stars in their own right, but we are psyched to see what Smith has planned as host. Will he be joined onstage by his kids? Will he incorporate a few of his famous friends into the act, like Tom Cruise? Will we get a sneak peek at new footage from the upcoming "Men in Black III"? We'll have to wait and see.

One Direction Break Hearts Stateside
The cute and charming lads of "it" boy band One Direction will no doubt bring the house down with whatever they perform on the show. A word of advice to the lucky folks attending the show: Think about bringing earplugs to protect yourself from the enthusiastic, high-pitched screams that will take over the Galen Center the instant the British pop group takes the stage. And they're not taking the opportunity lightly. "Kids' Choice is the biggest night on Nickelodeon," Niall Horan told MTV News about the magnitude of their appearance on the show. "All the big stars are going to be there, and when we found out it was just us and Katy Perry performing, we were like, 'Geez, this is a big deal.' "

An Appearance By a First Lady
Talk about upping the style and class factor! The fact that the very well-respected FLOTUS will be on hand to present Taylor Swift with an award is a really big deal. Michelle Obama will honor Swift with the Big Help Award, in recognition of her philanthropic efforts, including work with U.S. tornado and flood survivors. Obama herself was the recipient of the award in 2010, in recognition of her Let's Move! Campaign, which champions healthier lifestyles for kids. And, as if that weren't enough to establish her Nick cred, earlier this year, Obama also appeared on a special episode of "iCarly" to promote her Joining Forces initiative to support military families.

Who Will Get Slimed?
On to the most intriguing and entertaining part of the annual awards show: Who will get slimed? Despite the sticky, icky and total-mess factor that is involved with being covered from head to toe in the network's trademark green slime, it is considered an honor to get hit with the goo, which is said to be a mixture of green Jell-O, shampoo, oatmeal and flour. The illustrious list of previously slimed celebs includes: Katy Perry, Will Smith, Tom Cruise, Justin Timberlake, the Jonas Brothers, Jackson Rathbone and Russell Brand. So who's going down this year? Traditionally, the host is a prime target toward the end of the show, so we can probably count on seeing Smith covered in green, but who else? Maybe Perry or one of the presenters — Chris Rock, Emma Stone, Andrew Garfield, Zac Efron, Victoria Justice, Big Time Rush or Cee Lo Green.

Don't miss the Kids' Choice Awards on Saturday at 8 p.m. ET/PT on Nickelodeon.

Long Distance Relationship ? coffeelunchcoffee

Yesterday, I had the good fortune to reconnect with a dear friend and former colleague who was visiting Kansas City.? A few years ago, she moved to Boulder with her family, took a new job and is absolutely killing it!? Though we don?t talk often, she is someone who I greatly admire, I am always energized by our conversations and it is a blast to catch up with her.? I love hearing what she is doing both personally and professionally and I find that our information exchanges are consistently robust, interesting and we tend to run out of time before we run out of topics.? It is easy to pick up right back where we left things irrespective of the time that has passed between meetings, phone calls, texts, whatever.?

It got me to thinking, how does one effectively build and maintain a long distance relationship?? That is ? a professional relationship when weeks, months, years may go by between touch points.

Interestingly, just as I was contemplating this deep topic, I had the honor of speaking with a group of about 15 University of Kansas Hillel students about networking.? One brave soul asked me how she could meet networking contacts in New York City when she was going to school in Lawrence, Kansas, and is originally from Dallas, Texas.? Wow ? Another opportunity to contemplate building relationships across the miles.

Let?s face it:? It can be tough to build nationwide ? let alone, global, relationships.? One never wants to be outta-sight-outta-mind.? However, in today?s digital world, it has also never been easier to keep up with one another city to city.? A few ideas from my arsenal:

  1. I?ve said it before, I?ll say it again, make sure your LinkedIn profile is up to date.? LinkedIn, from my perspective, is one of the easiest ways to build your professional network.? Even with just a few primary or direct contacts, you suddenly have access to tons (could be millions!) of secondary and tertiary contacts.? Plus, by joining a few selectively chosen groups on LinkedIn, you will expand your network exponentially.?
  2. Next, if you haven?t yet embraced Twitter, now is the time.? I know, I know, who on earth will care what is going on with you in 160 characters or fewer?? You?d be surprised.? Plus, it is a really easy way to share information about what you are up to, what?s on your mind, what you care about, links to articles of interest, etc. on a fairly regular ? or irregular ? basis.? And, believe me, your network is keeping up with Twitter, too.? If you connect with them and even loosely keep up with their ?tweets,? you will know what they are up to, what?s on their mind, what they care about, links articles of interest, etc.? Easy.
  3. It?s good to keep in touch when you can, but don?t worry too much if it has been months or even years!? Life happens, people get busy ? everyone is busy.? Your contacts will appreciate hearing from you when you get a moment.? In turn, please be gracious and understanding when you suddenly hear from an old colleague out of the blue after a number of years.? You contact them when you can and/or need them?. They contact you when they can and/or need you. ?Quid pro quo.
  4. Need a contact in NYC when you live in Lawrence and are from Dallas?? Ask a local contact to put you in touch with his/her contact in NYC? or his or her contact in Phoenix who has the perfect contact in NYC.? People helping people to connect to people eliminates distance and helps to flatten the world, making it more accessible ? wherever people may reside.
  5. Of course, it?s good to keep up with your contacts all over the world. Whether you use social networking, phone calls, emails, texting, hand written notes and greeting cards or some other medium, reach out, let your contacts know what you?re up to, that you?re thinking of them and that you want to know what they are up to, too.?

Those are a few of my ideas for long distance networking.? So, tell me, how do you build and maintain your global network?? I would value your input and look forward to sharing it with other readers.

PFT: NFL announces draft order for April 26-28

yahoo_goodell_paytonGetty Images

There?s a bit of a disconnect regarding the league?s willingness to investigate aggressively the depths of the cash-for-cripplings rabbit hole.? Said NFL general counsel Jeff Pash in Peter King?s most recent MMQB column:? ?If we found evidence of the same clarity that we found in the New Orleans case, we would take action.? We have looked into some allegations. But as you know, allegations and accusations are not proof.?

That creates the impression that the door is closed on punishing other teams, despite public admissions from men who played for former Saints defensive coordinator Gregg Williams in Buffalo and Washington that bounties were employed.

Perhaps the door isn?t closed.? Late Monday afternoon, Commissioner Roger Goodell suggested that other past instances of bounties will indeed by investigated, and punishment will where appropriate be dispensed.

?We haven?t closed the investigation,? Goodell said.? ?We have not stopped investigating.? If we get information, we follow up on it.? Because of the time frame and because of the league meeting, we have not met with people who we will meet with as soon as these meetings are over with.? We will continue it.? We have not said that everybody has a free pass here.? We are saying that we will continue to pursue any information that we get that is credible.?

But what is ?credible? information?? Is safety Coy Wire claiming bounties were used in Buffalo enough to trigger a full-blown investigation?? How about former Redskins defensive end Philip Daniels, who still works for the team and thus has no axe to grind, claiming Williams used bounties there?

The reality is that the league ? and the league alone ? decides what is and isn?t credible.? The league also exclusively decides how aggressively to proceed, or not proceed, when in a position to take an isolated allegation and work it into a file folder full of proof.

It?s the point we made Sunday night.? Back in 2010, the NFL arguably didn?t want to expose the Saints as cheater, so the league merely interviewed a few people, accepted their denials as true, and moved on.? It was only after the league realized, nearly two years later, that the Saints kept right on using bounties that the NFL launched a scorched earth investigation that resulted in the accumulation of thousands of pages of documents and, presumably, more than a handful of interviews that featured questions more probing than, ?Did you use bounties??

And so the league likely won?t initiate a comprehensive internal review as to other past instances of bounties.? Instead, the league will be inclined to wipe the slate clean and roll up its sleeves only if there?s any evidence moving forward of any type of a bounty system.

That?s why no sports league should be responsible for investigating the misconduct of its own members ? and also why the time possibly has come for a national commission that is responsible for ensuring that the American professional sports leagues are free from cheating of any kind, from drug use to bounties to any other activities that undermine integrity and unfairly influence outcomes.

Syrian troops continue assault in northwest

Infantry and tanks clashed with rebels in Saraqeb, according to activists within the country.

Syrian troops backed by tanks stormed a northwestern town on Saturday in the latest of a series of pushes by regime forces into rebel-held areas, but faced strong resistance from defending army defectors, activists said.

The British-Based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights and the Local Coordination Committees said the troops entered Saraqeb from the north and were advancing amid heavy shelling.

The Observatory said fighting had reached the central market district where army defectors damaged a tank and three armored personnel carriers. It said several members of the military and a civilian were killed, and dozens more people were wounded.

IN PICTURES: Conflict in Syria

"Large numbers of residents are fleeing the town," said Rami Abdul-Rahman, who heads the Observatory, which has a network of activists inside Syria. "People have been leaving the town for some time but after today's attack the process intensified."

Syria's government has been on the offensive over the past two months and has taken a number of rebel strongholds: the provincial capital and other towns in the northwestern province of Idlib that borders Turkey, the central provinces of Hama and Homs, and the eastern oil-rich region of Deir el-Zour that borders Iraq.

Syria's rebels, who took up arms following the regime's crackdown on protesters, are outgunned by armored units loyal to President Bashar Assad but have opted for hit-and-run raids and ambushes.

The Syrian government cites the rise in such attacks to boost its argument that the uprising is being carried out by terrorist groups acting out a foreign conspiracy.

The LCC said the troops were accompanied by pro-government gunmen known as shabiha and plainclothes security agents who arrived in buses and started conducting raids and detaining people. Calls to the town could not get through. The government is known to cut networks in areas where operations are underway.

Saraqeb, in the northern province of Idlib, had been held by army defectors for months.

The attack came 11 days after troops retook Idlib city, the provincial capital, which had also been under rebel control for months.

The Observatory said Syrian security forces killed 10 people throughout Syria Saturday while the LCC put the death toll at 15.

IN PICTURES: Conflict in Syria

International condemnation and high-level diplomacy have failed to stop the year-old Syria crisis that the U.N. says has killed more than 8,000 people, many of them civilian protesters.

Earlier this week, a U.N. Security Council statement called for a cease-fire to allow for dialogue between all sides on a political solution. Assad's government played down the statement, saying Damascus is under no threats or ultimatums.

Earlier Saturday, the Observatory and the LCC said troops fired mortar rounds at the rebel-held neighborhood of Khaldiyeh in the central city of Homs in apparent preparation to storm the area.

Abdul-Rahman said the heavily-populated Khaldiyeh has been shelled since early Saturday. The LCC posted a video on its Facebook page showing smoke billowing from a residential area it said was in Khaldiyeh.

The neighborhoods, one of Homs' largest, has been under rebel control for months.

Homs has seen some of the heaviest fighting in Syria's year-long uprising. Government forces crushed a rebel stronghold in Baba Amr neighborhood on March 1.

The Observatory said troops also barraged the town of Qalaat al-Madiq in Hama province with mortars and heavy machine guns. The government has been trying to enter the town for the past two weeks, it said.

Lost in the NFL?s strong reaction to the discovery of a three-year bounty system in New Orleans is the fact that the league initially investigated allegations of a cash-for-cripplings program in 2010, after the Saints won Super Bowl XLIV.

Nothing was found.? But how hard did the league really look?

The March 2 confidential report from NFL Security claims that the league?s in-house police force ?conducted detailed interviews? of Saints defensive coordinator Gregg Williams, Saints assistant head coach/linebackers coach Joe Vitt, and Saints defensive end Anthony Hargrove, and that they each ?categorically denied? any knowledge of a bounty program.

So how detailed was the questioning?? And how hot was the light that was applied to the witnesses?

If the men were grilled, they?re each great liars ? or the members of NFL Security assigned to the case are crappy investigators.? If Williams, Vitt, and Hargrove were faced instead with perfunctory ?Is there a bounty system??-type questions, there would have been no way to spot the kind of subtle inconsistencies or ?tells? that would pluck at the instincts of the former law-enforcement personnel who end up working for NFL Security.

My own instincts suggest it?s the latter, and that the NFL simply didn?t want to uncover in the weeks after Super Bowl XLIV evidence that would have called into question the validity of the Saints? Super Bowl-winning season.? Supporting this conclusion is the fact that NFL Security interviewed only Williams, Vitt, and Hargrove.? Why not interview head coach Sean Payton?? Why not interview the rest of the defensive staff?? Why not interview extensively every player from the team?s defense, using the various tricks of the trade aimed at manipulating the weak minded in order to get to the truth?? Why not review emails and other potentially relevant records?

There was plenty of evidence to suspect that something was amiss.? In the bye week before Super Bowl XLIV, Williams brazenly suggested that the Saints didn?t care about taking a 15-yard penalty if it meant knocking Colts quarterback Peyton Manning out of the game.

?When you put too much of that type of worry on a warrior?s mind, he doesn?t play all out,? Williams said.? ?If it happens, it happens.? And the only thing you?d like for me to say is that if it happens you hope he doesn?t get back up and play again.?? (Williams? words prompted Payton to serve the defensive coordinator peanut butter, crackers, and sand in the days preceding Super Bowl XLIV.)

Williams? comments about Manning should have been enough to prompt a zealous investigator to request from the Saints a copy of a transcript of every 2009 media session from Williams.? If such a request had been made, the investigators would have seen this troubling remark from Williams regarding the plan for defending Panthers receiver Steve Smith:? ?The thing that I think he does is the best is that for a little guy, when the ball goes up in the air, he plays like a 6-10 center; he goes and gets it.? What you have to do is to turn his little body over so that when he does get it, he lands on his head and he doesn?t come back in for a while.?

The mere existence of such a nonchalant attitude toward inflicting injury as a means for achieving strategic objectives should have been enough to trigger a scorched-earth investigation in 2010, months before someone blew the whistle and forced the NFL to be far more aggressive.

The two possible explanations for the failure to engage in a more thorough investigation in 2010 are:? (1) incompetence; and (2) a deliberate reluctance to publicly identify one of the 32 franchises as being a cheater.

We?ve seen it many times when it comes to tampering.? The league looks the other way, either because the league doesn?t want to create the impression that teams are cheating ? or because the league office doesn?t want to alienate any of the franchises who ultimately determine who does, and who doesn?t, work at the league office.

In this case, it can be argued that the NFL came down extra hard on the Saints now not because they had a bounty system for three years but because the NFL gave them an opening to get away with one year of it, and the Saints were too stupid and/or arrogant to realize that they should stop.

Regardless, if the Saints had merely stopped doing it after the NFL showed up and gave short shrift to the investigation in 2010, no one would have ever known the difference and the NFL wouldn?t be dealing with a major blow to its image and the league now wouldn?t be forced to determine how deep it wants to dig into the rabbit hole and Congress wouldn?t be poised to do the digging for the league.

So it?s fair to conclude that the league didn?t want to discovery the bounty system in 2010.? And that the league hoped that the Saints were smart enough to stop.

After all, the punishment ultimately dispensed could end up hurting the league a lot more than it ever hurts the Saints.

U.S. World Bank pick to win broad support: Geithner

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Jim Yong Kim, the U.S. nominee to lead the World Bank, will win broad international support despite an unprecedented challenge by candidates from emerging economies, U.S. Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner said in an interview.

Washington's hold on the World Bank presidency is being contested for the first time by candidates from emerging economies. Two respected economists and diplomats, Nigerian Finance Minister Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala and former Colombian finance minister Jose Antonio Ocampo, have been nominated.

Kim, a Korean-American health expert, is well known among development experts for his work in fighting HIV/AIDS and bringing healthcare to the poor. President Barack Obama nominated him for World Bank president on Friday.

"The president was looking for a candidate who could command broad support across the world," Geithner told Reuters in an interview released on Saturday. "That's very important, because we don't make this decision alone."

"Dr. Kim's mix of skills will be particularly compelling to the bank at this time and I think the world will be very impressed with him," he said.

Emerging economies such as China, India, South Africa, Brazil and Russia have sought to use their growing economic clout to pry open the selection process for the heads of the World Bank and its sister organization, the International Monetary Fund.

The World Bank has always been headed by an American and the IMF by a European since their inception after World War Two.

Geithner said it was not a surprise that candidates from other countries had been nominated after a 2009 agreement by leaders of the Group of 20 nations for an open and transparent process to select leaders of the two institutions.

"We expected that to happen and think it is healthy for the institution as a whole," Geithner said. "But I can tell you from my conversations with developing and developed countries, I am confident he (Kim) will win broad support."

U.S. officials have acknowledged that giving up the World Bank presidency would make it difficult for the White House to obtain funding from Congress for the global lender, especially with lawmakers worried about mounting budget deficits.

The United States has also argued that it does not head any other global organization.

RECOMMENDED BY CLINTONS

After a broad search that looked at U.S. bankers, economists and politicians, Obama settled on Kim because the Dartmouth College president has a deep commitment to development issues, Geithner said. In particular, he cited Kim's experience in programs to fight HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis in impoverished nations, which he said demonstrated that the nominee could get things done in tough environments.

In coming weeks, Kim will visit nations in Africa, Asia and Latin America to try to convince them he is the best candidate to lead the poverty-fighting institution, U.S. officials said.

Kim was recommended to Obama by U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and her husband, former President Bill Clinton, officials said. Kim and his long-time collaborator Paul Farmer worked with former President Clinton on reconstruction efforts in Haiti following a devastating earthquake in 2010.

The White House has acknowledged it considered candidates tied more closely to Washington political circles, including U.S. Senator John Kerry, U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Susan Rice and former White House economic adviser Lawrence Summers.

"The president wanted somebody who had defined their life through a commitment to the cause of development but had also demonstrated an ability to solve complex problems in a creative way," said Geithner, a Dartmouth alumnus who played a lead role in the search for a successor for outgoing World Bank President Robert Zoellick.

Kim's development successes involving HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis and the provision of inexpensive medicine to the poor have received wide praise. However, some development experts say he lacks the economic credentials and diplomatic skills of rival nominees Okonjo-Iweala and Ocampo.

While the World Bank's mission remains focused on eradicating poverty, the rise of some once poorer clients such as China and India have forced it to also focus on impediments to development in emerging economies, including power supply and governance issues.

Okonjo-Iweala and Ocampo would bring more expertise in these areas, some development economists say. A senior Obama administration official said the bank has ample expertise and what is needed at the top is someone who can get things done.

The World Bank is involved in the design of health systems in developing countries, but its funding and influence in the area has been eclipsed by groups such as the Geneva-based Global Fund and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

Geithner said Kim has "an incredible feel for what matters most in development and recognizes that for economies to grow they have to invest in expanding opportunities for their people, in healthcare and in education."

"Those are lessons that the most successful emerging and developing countries have learned and been forced to learn, and in that sense he has the ideal feel," Geithner added. "His experience comes from what he has done in the field, not just from his academic research."

People who had worked with Kim were impressed by his ability to handle complicated situations in tough environments such as Haiti, Geithner said. In Haiti, Kim was credited with persuading the government to take steps to avoid an outbreak of tuberculosis.

Five Fun Games For Younger Soccer Players | Church Sports ...

All of the below games could be played with kids of any level but would particularly be good for kids 6 or under.? Enjoy!

1.? Pirate Treasure (Link); Skills Developed: Dribbling, defense

Create a grid about 30X30. Set up about 10 tall cones (the treasure) along one side of the grid. On the opposite side have each player (the pirates) start with a ball. 2-3 players will start inside the grid with an alternate color jersey on. They are defending the treasure (tall cones) along the side of the grid.

  1. On the coaches command, the pirates attempt to dribble past the defenders in attempt to take the treasure.
  2. To take the treasure the players must knock down the cone with the ball.
  3. Once they have knocked down the cone they must pick up the cone and take it back to their starting point while dribbling the ball.
  4. If the pirates lose the ball by the defenders, they must start back over at the original starting point.

2.? Snake in the Grass (Link); Skills Developed: Movement, spacing, dribbling

Create a small grid approximately 15X15 yards. All of the players should be inside the grid. The coach should designate two players to be the ?snakes? by lying on their stomachs. Each of the players begin with one of their hands on the snakes in the grass.

When the coach yells ?SNAKE IN THE GRASS? the non-snake players attempt to avoid the snakes as the snakes attempt to slither around on their stomach and touch a non-snake player. As a player is touched, that player too becomes a snake. The activity continues until everyone is a snake.

3.? Red Light/Green Light; Skills Developed: Dribbling

This well known children?s game makes a great drill. ?All players start on one side of the
field with a ball. ?Coach yells ?Green Light? and turns her back to the players. ?Yell ?Red Light? and then turn back
around. ?All players should have moved forward and now be standing still with one foot on the ball. Any player still
moving or without his or her ball, gets sent back to the starting line.

4.? Traffic; Skills Developed: Dribbling, spacing, vision

Create a square playing area roughly 10 ft by 10 ft. Divide the players into two groups. ?Set
one group up on the north side of the square and the other team on the east side. Each player has a ball. ?On the
start all players must cross the square, make the turn when they get to the other side and come back. ?Make it a
race to see which team can be the first to get its players across and back 3 times.

5.? Pass to Score; Skills Developed: Passing, spacing, vision

Divide the players into 2 equal teams and establish a playing area roughly half the size of
the field. ?Have the players spread out all over the playing area. ?Toss the ball in to start. ?The goal is to gain control
of the ball and make 3 passes in a row between teammates. ?If the defense intercepts then that team tries to make
3 passes in a row. ?After a score of 3 successful passes, the coach restarts with a thrown in. ?Play for a certain
amount of time or until 10 points are scored.

Today is Show Time-First Public Speaking Event Explaining Why I ...

Ok fans, it is showtime. I have to appear in a few minutes and give my first public speech and appearance in downtown Fort Myers. Great.

I get another opportunity to speak publically in a forum with others that think they are better or more qualified than I am. I kindly disagree for several reasons:

1. I am in love and like many things and people. I am in love with my son, my finance, my country, Florida, Kansas but not Missouri.

2. I have many of the necessary virtues, values and character that uniquely qualify me to represent the people of this nation.

3. I have anxiety. This is a good thing to have explaining why I do so much for those things and persons I love. The way the anxiety plays out means I will work my tail off moving and making our nation a better place.

4. Unlike the other candidates, I walk the talk, sparing voters of the same old thing when it comes to issues. I do not spin political rhetoric like most [politicans do, speaking like a two-headed snake, never taking a stand on divisive political issues smartly to avoid voter alienation. I am not that smart and I do want to speak on both sides of a divisive issue.

5. Best reason of all. God and Jesus love me. If they want me to be your next congressman, that is their work-not mine. I am merely their instrument doing whatever job they delegate to me.

So God and Jesus, be there today guiding me to what I refer to as showtime. Remember, when I write, so help me God, I mean it. Finally, make sure that slacker angel of mine is right there on my shoulder today.

Amen. Time to go. I have been getting ready and prepared all of my life.

(AP) ? A piano work experts attribute to Mozart as a child prodigy was performed for the first time Friday since it was found last year after apparently being left in an attic for centuries.

The lively 84-bar passage ? marked "allegro molto," or "very quick" ? was played Friday on the composer's piano in a room of his Salzburg home by virtuoso Florian Birsak.

The Mozarteum Salzburg Foundation, which staged the event, said the manuscript was found last summer as part of a 160-page book of handwritten piano music as the musty attic of a house in Tyrol was being cleared from centuries of detritus.

Part of a collection of notes from a village music teacher, the book was dated 1780 ? 24 years after Mozart was born ? and the manuscript played Friday bore the name "Del Signore Giovane Wolfgango Mozart," Italian for "Mr. Wolfgang Mozart Jr."

Musicologist Hildegard Hermann-Schneider, who traced the composition to Mozart, said the fact that other pieces in the book were known works by Mozart's father, Leopold, strengthened the case that the work was genuine. As well, Leopold Mozart often used "Wolfgango" when labeling works written by his young son, she said.

From the style of the composition, Hermann-Schneider attributed it to Mozart at around the age of 11.

The piece exhibits "a series of components that are found repeatedly in other Mozart piano works," said the Mozarteum in a statement. "Judging by the current level of knowledge, it thus has to be a genuine sonata phrase from Mozart."

'Zia' by Scott O'Dell a fictional look at life in California missions

Just forty miles north of San Francisco, in the center of Sonoma sits the San Francisco Solano Mission, sometimes known as the Sonoma Mission. It is the northernmost mission, established by the Catholic Church in 1823. Approximately 600 miles to the south is Mission San Diego, or San Diego de Alcala, the southernmost mission and the first mission to be established in California. A total of 21 missions exist, including Sonoma Mission and Mission San Diego.

As anyone who has gone to elementary school in California knows, the study of the California Missions is part of the fourth-grade study of California history. Students spend weeks learning about the different Franciscan priests who established each of the missions, building models of the missions and learning what life was like in the missions.

Zia, by Scott O'Dell is a book that gives a fictionalized account of life in the missions by a fourteen-year-old girl whose ancestors lived on one of the Channel Islands located off the coast of California near Santa Barbara and Ventura. The residents of that island were part of the Nicolenos, a small band of American Indians which no longer exists.?Zia is a sequel to O'Dell's Newbery Medal-winning book Island of the Blue Dolphins.

Book Info

Title: Zia

Author: Scott O'Dell

Publisher: Sandpiper (2011)

ISBN: ?978-0547406336

Check out a slideshow of other books by Scott O'Dell

Zia and her younger brother Mando are living at the mission in Santa Barbara. Eighteen years earlier their mother had brought them there as small children when her family was rescued from San Nicholas, the smallest and most remote of the Channel Islands of California. Zia's aunt Karana was left alone on the island and it is her story that is told in Islands of the Blue Dolphin. In Zia, the story revolves around the young girl's efforts to rescue her aunt and be reunited with the only family member left, besides her brother.

Although Karana is safely reunited with Zia and Mando, it isn't the joyous reunion Zia expected. Zia no longer remembers the language of her mother and Karana knows no language but her native tongue. Life in the mission is hard, even cruel at times, and is realistically shown. Zia wavers from wanting to stay where she is fed and clothed, and running away with several others because of the policies and cruelities inflicted by the Catholic Church upon the 'heathen savages' whose souls they must save.

Island of the Blue Dolphins is a better book than its sequel. But Zia is a book worth reading, especially for nine and ten-year-olds that are studying the California Missions. It is also worth reading if one enjoys historical fiction. It does give an accurate portrayal of what life in the missions was like for neophytes. There were those who treated the natives with kindness and respect, but there were also long days filled with hard work and prayer.

This book, in addition to visiting the missions of northern California if possible, would only add to any education about California history. Other missions in northern California include:

Obama: 'If I had a son, he'd look like Trayvon'

(AP) ? President Barack Obama spoke in unusually personal terms Friday about the shooting death of an unarmed black teenager in Florida, a case that has roiled civil rights activists and a suburban Orlando community. "If I had a son, he'd look like Trayvon," Obama said, vowing to "get to the bottom of what happened."

Obama expressed sympathy for the parents of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin, who was shot on Feb. 26 in Sanford, Fla., a suburb of Orlando, by a neighborhood watch volunteer who said he was acting in self-defense.

"I can only imagine what these parents are going through, and when I think about this boy, I think about my own kids," Obama said, calling the case a "tragedy."

The nation's first black president aimed his message at Martin's parents, saying, "If I had a son, he'd look like Trayvon. I think they are right to expect that all of us as Americans take this with the seriousness that it deserves, and we're going to get to the bottom of what happened."

Obama said that "every parent in America should be able to understand why it is absolutely imperative that we investigate every aspect of this and everybody pulls together, federal state and local, to figure out exactly how this tragedy happened."

Obama brought his voice to an issue that is sensitive in Florida, a large and diverse state that plays an influential role in presidential elections. The Orlando area in central Florida is particularly important, acting as a bellwether for statewide elections.

Republican presidential candidates weighed in after Obama spoke. Former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum called the shooting "horrible case" and referred to Florida's "stand your ground" law, which gives people wide latitude to use deadly force rather than retreat during a fight.

Santorum said: "Stand your ground is not doing what this man did."

Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney issued a statement after Obama spoke that read: "What happened to Trayvon Martin is a tragedy. There needs to be a thorough investigation that reassures the public that justice is carried out with impartiality and integrity."

The Justice Department and FBI have opened a civil rights investigation, and a grand jury is considering whether to charge George Zimmerman, who acknowledged shooting the teen but said it was in self-defense. Martin's parents, civil rights activists and others who have rallied to the cause say they won't be satisfied until Zimmerman is arrested.

Police Chief Bill Lee stepped down temporarily this week to try to cool the building anger that his department had not arrested Zimmerman. Hours later, Gov. Rick Scott announced that the local state attorney, Norman Wolfinger, had recused himself from the case in hopes of "toning down the rhetoric" surrounding it.

Martin was returning from a trip to a convenience store when Zimmerman started following him, telling police dispatchers he looked suspicious. At some point, the two got into a fight, and Zimmerman pulled out his gun.

Zimmerman told police Martin attacked him after he had given up on chasing the teenager and was returning to his sport utility vehicle.

Obama cautioned before speaking that he must "be careful so we're not impairing any investigation." But he said he was glad the Justice Department was investigating and that Florida officials had formed the task force.

"I think all of us have to do some soul searching to figure out how did something like this happen, and that means we examine the laws and the context for what happened as well as the specifics of the incident," Obama said.

The case resonates with many black Americans, a key voting group during Obama's 2008 election, who see it as yet another example of bias toward blacks. Civil rights groups have held rallies in Florida and New York, saying the shooting was unjustified. Of Sanford's 53,000 residents, 57 percent are white and 30 percent are black.

Obama himself has tried to downplay race, as he did early in his term after the controversial arrest of Henry Louis Gates Jr., a black Harvard University professor, by a white police sergeant in Cambridge, Mass.

Gates was arrested in his own home after the police sergeant arrived to investigate a possible burglary. The charges were dropped, but Obama said the police had "acted stupidly," breathing life into a lingering debate. The president said later he should have expressed his concerns with different language and invited both Gates and Sgt. James Crowley to the White House for a beer.

Those Who Know English Will Travel China or The USA.

A novel concept is marrying budget-conscious travelers to the nation with hungry-for-English yuppie Chinese. Shi Yingying reports

When 22-year-old Ammon Cunningham and his wife Marissa from Utah's Salt Lake City decided to visit Shanghai in the middle of June, accommodation was the last thing on their mind, despite it being peak time for hotel occupancy, thanks to the on-going Expo. The young couple had arranged to stay in a 140-square-meter apartment in Putuo district for free, in exchange for English conversation everyday with their hosts - 18-year-old Wu Siwei and his mother, Jin Yujun.

This was made possible by a non-profit Chinese organization called Tourboarding, which offers a virtual platform for free lodging in Chinese homes in exchange for English tutoring. Guests are required to speak at least two hours of English every day in return for their stay, giving their Chinese hosts the chance to learn from a resident live-in English teacher for free - lessons that can otherwise costs 200-350 yuan ($30-50) an hour, and even more than 1,000 yuan an hour at some training institutions.

"I think it is very nice to actually be this close to the local culture," says Ammon. "We would like to not only visit tourist spots, but also see how a Chinese family lives, what their customs are like, and what's their favorite television show."

Although Ammon's company in the US would have covered his cost of accommodation as one of the aims of his 15-day trip is to expand business with the Shanghai branch of Gymboree (an early childhood education company), the young man chose the Shanghai family over a star hotel.

He chanced on the Tourboarding website while "looking for information on Chinese culture and what's okay to do".

"I thought this might be fun to try," says Ammon. "So we contacted Wu's mother and the rest is history."

Wu, a recent high school graduate, was most excited when he heard that two English-speaking foreigners would be staying at his home. The teenager is currently preparing for the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) for his future plans to study in the US.

"Unlike the formal teaching in my school, the conversations I have with Ammon and Marissa are more like everyday conversations between friends," Wu says.

"To spend more time with them, I show them around Shanghai and that means far more than two hours of English every day."

Ammon says they talk about diverse topics. "I think that's really good as in China, students usually memorize everything so they can clear a test. This kind of conversation is a lot more difficult for them."

As to suitable US universities for Wu, Ammon's 20-year-old wife Marissa, who is still in her last year at university says, "I'd definitely encourage him to go to the University of Utah. It is very famous and near our city."

Marissa says the biggest cultural shock for her is the lack of personal space. "Here in China people are always right next to each other, but in the US, everyone tries to keep away as much as possible.

However, the couple have their own separate bedroom and bathroom in Wu's house.

"Our bedroom is done up in the Japanese tatami style, while the living room is decorated with traditional Chinese calligraphy, and that's cool," says Marissa.

The Cunninghams usually have their breakfast and dinner "at home", talk to the family in English and spend the day either traveling or working.

"We even did dumpling together once with Wu and his mother," says Ammon who first picked this up from his father who lived for a while in Taiwan and is good at Chinese cuisine. "We're grateful for the treat and are thinking of preparing an American-style breakfast for them before leaving."

The most interactive moments between the American couple and their Chinese hosts come after dinner, when they either watch the popular TV matchmaking show If You Are the One (Fei Cheng Wu Rao), play the card game, Beat the Landlord, or Chinese chess. "It (the show) is so funny," says Ammon.

Wu says his mom Jin loves to try new things and her English is so good that she could communicate with the Cunninghams without any problem.

But doesn't Jin worry about their safety with two complete strangers in the house?

"Shanghai is my city, even if anything goes wrong, they will be more afraid than us," says Jin. "However, I have no concerns, the Cunninghams seem nice and friendly."

Tourboarding is the brainchild of an intrepid backpacker, 38-year-old Ken Chen. He says he found that 80 percent of tourists to China come as part of tour groups, while the comparative figure for Europe and America is 30 percent.

"That's when I came up with the idea of accommodating backpackers with ordinary Chinese families," says Chen, adding that the English tutoring is tailor-made for the Chinese.

Chen quit his job at Nike Sports China and joined forces with Nuno Zhang, 28, a former Google employee and a few expats to launch Tourboarding in April.

Their research showed that about 130 million Chinese fall in the 18-40 age group - their target host families - who are open to foreign cultures and eager to learn English. About 47 percent have evinced interest in the Tourboarding concept and 21 percent are willing to give it a try.

"In the past two months, more than 10,000 users have signed up on our website," says Chen. "We are especially popular in big cities such as Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou. Our overseas promotion now extends from English-speaking countries to Europeans and Japan."

According to Chen, most Chinese families interested in the program are those with children. "But they are also those with apartments that are big enough. Even some of young white collar workers are interested in Tourboarding, although they might still be renting their apartment and are not allowed to bring strangers home."

Spurred by the enthusiasm for Tourboarding, Chen is also thinking about building a "foreigners' city".

"Why should we not bring an English-speaking environment to China?" he asks.

"We can build a mini-city peopled with foreign backpackers who can be encouraged to live like they do in their home countries. English will be the only language of communication

"The Chinese can visit this 'city' and quickly improve their language skills," he says.

Submitted 2012-03-24 18:58:56 Internet marketing reports come in many forms. They may be infrequent newsletters, monthly online updates, newspapers, or extensive documents. If you are in the business of making money online, you have likely seen these reports many times. Hopefully, you have been able to make use of the information contained in these reports to increase your online profits. You can take things to the next level by creating your own reports. This helps to build your credibility and earn you status as an expert, which in turn will increase your customer base and increase your income.

The word "report" usually signifies a kind of authority or objective information to most readers. This is a way that it differs from an eBook, which can be subjective with not as much point-by-point information. A report is also shorter, which is often seen as an advantage in the eyes of the reader, as well as in your eyes when you'll put in the effort to create it. EBooks are typically viewed as more than 40 pages long. Finally, reports tend to be offered for free, while eBooks often come with a price.

So, how do you come up with an Internet marketing report? There are several pathways that can lead you to your first report. The important thing to consider is that this report should be free, and it should eventually introduce readers to your next product that they will pay for. So, your report could be the first chapter in your eBook. Or it could be a summary of a point that will be covered in your eBook. Or it could be a very different kind of take on an aspect of Internet marketing. For example, the report could focus on the mental attitude you need to become a successful Internet marketer, while your next product would focus on the actual tasks that you need to perform in order to be successful.

You can give away your report in exchange for the contact details of the reader. So you ask them to fill out their name and e-mail and after they have submitted this information, they can have the report. In this case, you have them on your list and keep in touch with them to promote your next product or any other related products.

Similar to this, you can give your report away as a bonus. If readers buy something else that you offer, they then receive the report free of charge.

The structure of your report should consist of a cover page, a "Welcome" or "Thank You" page, a Table of Contents, the various topics or chapters, and then a conclusion and another thank you. Make sure that you also have all your contact information and pictures to break it up a little. You will want to save the report as a PDF file.

These are just some of the many ways in which an internet marketing report can be used. These reports should be included in the toolbox you use for making money online.
